TAKTLINK REV-BASE 01M/E
HKD$9,900.00
Numerous audio boards have been released over the years. Audio shops carry a wide variety of boards. Some rely on the material itself, others boast a combination of materials, and some feature a structure that allows vibrations to escape. Each has its merits, and I believe they are all excellent products. However, I have never found a board that consistently delivers the same excellent performance, regardless of the product it is used with, the environment it is used in, or even when it is moved. A board with this structure is good for this frequency range, but the sound seems a little boomy in another frequency range? A board with this structure is extremely effective for rotating devices, but the focus seems a little off for speakers and the like… What is the best board in my opinion? The development of the REV-BASE 01 began with this idea: I wanted to create the best audio board I could use.
After the structure was decided, we conducted over 100 listening tests before releasing the final product to the world. We meticulously tested the number of ceramic and steel ball combinations included, as well as their internal placement. The completed REV-BASE 01’s mechanical structure minimizes vibration to the nearest possible level, maximizing the inherent potential of the installed equipment and speakers. It is an audio board so ideal that it seems impossible to make anything better at this point. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who cooperated with us.
Mechanical fixed point contact structure
The basic concept behind REV BASE is to prevent unwanted vibrations from being transmitted to either the equipment or the floor through a mechanical point-contact structure, whether the board is installed on the floor or inside an audio rack. This is achieved by placing high-density MDF on the top and bottom, with multiple 2mm ceramic or steel balls positioned between them for point-contact support.
While the structure may seem simple, this point-contact structure is tricky. The sound changes dramatically depending on which part of the high-density MDF is supported, with what material, and in what amount. In other words, even with point-contact, we had to decide where on the board to place what, and then develop a structure that would “hold” it in the intended position.
The position was determined through repeated listening tests, and the sandwich structure is made up of two steel boards of different thicknesses.
For the board (top and bottom), we chose thick, high-density MDF board, which we found to be the most desirable material for sound quality. A special coating creates a luxurious yet scratch-resistant finish. Two types of 2mm balls are used. For the mid- and high-frequency ranges, we use an extremely expensive silicon nitride ceramic, which produces a clear, expansive sound and is also excellent in impact resistance, abrasion resistance, and load capacity. For the mid- and low-frequency ranges, we use high-quality steel balls, which we determined to be the most desirable for sound quality. The ratio of the
two types of balls and their placement were determined through extensive listening tests. Of course, we also took into account the center of gravity of the equipment and speakers to be installed. A sandwich structure with steel boards placed above and below the two types of balls allows for a load capacity of over 100 kg (150 kg for the L size). The two steel boards are of different thicknesses to change the resonance point.
Special structure for point contact area fixation
Even if the 2mm ceramic/steel balls at the heart of the design are perfectly aligned and positioned, there’s no point if they shift position every time you carry it. That’s why we developed an original structure for the REV-BASE that maintains point contact without fixing the balls themselves, allowing them to move within a mere 1mm. Furthermore, the top and bottom MDF boards are specially fastened together to ensure they don’t come loose and maintain a beautiful appearance that makes it difficult to tell where they’re attached. This ensures that the REV-BASE’s internal structure remains intact, even when you carry it around. This means that the 2mm ceramic/steel balls always maintain ideal point contact, remaining in their predetermined position for sound quality. Furthermore, the top and bottom boards have a 5mm step, so the top board doesn’t touch the floor, and you can easily insert your fingers inside for easy portability.
Earthing effect that makes effective use of the area
REV-BASE’s design not only improves sound quality through its structure, but also includes an internal aluminum board for grounding. Connecting the two included cables (RCA/mini-speaker) to unused terminals on audio equipment or the negative terminal of speakers improves signal-to-noise ratios. This is possible thanks to the board’s substantial surface area. The sound quality improvement is so overwhelming it’s immediately noticeable. The M size has a single connection terminal on the long side, while the L size has connection terminals on both the short and long sides, allowing you to ground from the rear even when using the short side as the front when using with large speakers.
*Earthing improves the sound quality of almost all audio equipment, but in the case of amplifiers with balanced output, it may be better not to.
